Allogeneic haemopoeitic stem cell transplant remains to be the only curative option for many patients with haemoglobinopathy, aplastic anaemia, leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndrome and metabolic storage disorders. The frequency of finding a matched sibling donor is 30%.1
