Dr. Haziqul Yaqin, Consultant Surgeon at the K.V. Social Security, S.L.T.E. Hospital, Karachi died from a heart attack on 30th August 1982, aged 48.
Haziqul Yaqin was born in 1934 and was educated at University of Lucknow and King Edward Medical College, Lahore, qualifying M.B.B.S. in 1956. He obtained FRCS (Edin) in 1966 and FRCS (Eng) in 1967. He held appointments at the Mayo Hospital, Lahore, Liaquat Medical College, Jamshoro, Hospital in Doha, Qatar, Margaret General Hospital and Royal Sea Bathing Hospital, Margaret (Kent) and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Aylesbury. He returned to Pakistan in 197O and joined K.V. Social Security S.I.T.E. Hospital in February 1971   as   a  Consultant  Surgeon.
He was given prizes for his essays on bladder cancer and cholelithiasis by the Oxford Regional Hospital Board in 1968 and 1969 and has published several articles in the national and International journals.
Dr. Haziq was member of the Association of Surgical Oncology (London), Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Association of Surgeons of South East Asia, and founder member of Association of Surgeons of Pakistan.
He was Associate Editor of the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association and member of Editorial Board, British Journal of Surgery (U.K.) and Tropical Gastroenterology (India).
Together with his charming wife he had a home where a warm welcome awaited all the friends and the national and international visitors. They provided kindness and never ending nospitality to visitors of all ages.
He was a delightful person and a good friend and will be missed by his friends for years to come in all the academic gatherings and surgical moots.

The long association with Dr. Haziq suddenly snapped in the early hours of the 30th August 1982. This was not usual with him who was very well organised and planned every programme in advance. But nature gave no time for preparation  in fact even no warning.
The ever smiling individual with deep patience, was always very optimistic. A very precise careful and quick Surgeon, he was very popular with his colleagues, loved by his juniors and admired by his patients. The most difficult and complicated cases were taken up by him. He was known in the patient population as the "Gall Bladder" Surgeon.
Dr. Haziq worked for the cause of Surgery. He put in unending efforts in fields where equipment is still lacking in our country. Lately his series of Spleno-Renal Shunts in cases of Portal Hypertension is well established, yielding excellent results. The P.T.C.S still not very commonly performed were his favourite investigation. With him gone, the medical profession has lost one of its\' pioneers. A humble polite, soft spoken, pleasant and good surgeon has left.
The comments of Mr. John Hadfield from England in his speech delivered in the Surgeon\'s Conference held in January this year-Haziq was the bond between Pakistan and the Royal College of Surgeons, speak up for his greatness. He was the founder member of the Surgeon\'s Society.
A very senior and active member of the editorial board of the J.P.M.A., he has a great contribution to the standard of the journal today.
With Dr. Haziq gone, a gap has been created in many fields of life. One can only say-he was a super surgeon, a super friend, a super individual.
